# From base64

## Description

This operation is used to decode data from a Base64 string back into its raw format. Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding method commonly used to encode binary data (like images or files) into text that can be easily transmitted over text-based protocols such as email, JSON, or XML. It’s also used for data storage, ensuring the data remains ASCII-safe.

## Data types

These are the input/output expected data types for this operation:

### Input data

`String` - The Base64 strings you want to decode.

### Output data

`String` - Decoded strings.

***

## Parameters

These are the parameters you need to configure to use this operation (mandatory parameters are marked with a <mark style="color:red;">**\***</mark>):

<details>

<summary>Strict Mode</summary>

Set this option to **true** to include additional checks and ensure the input is correctly formatted as Base64. Enabling **Strict Mode** can be useful to catch any errors or irregularities in the Base64-encoded input, preventing potential issues in decoding or data processing.

</details>

## Example

Suppose you want to **decode** a series of events in the **Base64** encoding scheme:

1. In your Pipeline, open the required [Action](/pipelines/actions.md) configuration and select the input **Field**.
2. In the **Operation** field, choose **From Base64**.
3. Set **Strict Mode** to `true`.
4. Give your **Output field** a name and click **Save**. The values in your input field will be decoded. For example:

```
Input data - "SGVsbG8sIE9udW0h"
Strict Mode - true
Output data - "Hello, Onum!"
```

{% hint style="info" %}
You can try out operations with specific values using the **Input** field above the operation. You can enter the value in the example above and check the result in the **Output** field.
{% endhint %}
