# MD5

## Description

This operation allows you to hash data using the **MD5 (Message Digest 5)** algorithm. MD5 is a cryptographic hash function primarily intended for use in systems based on 32-bit computers. It produces a 128-bit hash value (16 bytes), typically represented as a 32-character hexadecimal string.

## Data types

These are the input/output expected data types for this operation:

### Input data

`String` - Data you want to hash.

### Output data <a href="#output-data" id="output-data"></a>

`String` - MD5 hash values.

## Example

Suppose you want to **hash** your input strings using the **MD5** algorithm:

1. In your Pipeline, open the required [Action](https://onum.gitbook.io/onum-docs/the-workspace/pipelines/actions) configuration and select the input **Field**.
2. In the **Operation** field, choose **MD5**.
3. Give your **Output field** a name and click **Save**. The strings in your input field will be hashed using the MD5 algorithm.

For example, the following string:

```csv
Hello World!
```

will be hashed as:

```json
ed076287532e86365e841e92bfc50d8c
```
