# Remove whitespace

## Description

This operation allows you to clean up text by eliminating unnecessary whitespace characters. This includes spaces, tabs, newlines, and other types of whitespace that might be present in your input data.

## Data types

These are the input/output expected data types for this operation:

### Input data

`String` - The strings from which the whitespace characters will be removed.

### Output data

`String` - The resulting strings after removing the specified characters.

## Parameters

These are the parameters you need to configure to use this operation (mandatory parameters are marked with a <mark style="color:red;">**\***</mark>):

Set this parameter to `true` if you want to remove spaces from your input strings.

<summary>Carriage returns</summary>

Set this parameter to `true` if you want to remove carriage returns (`\r`) from your input strings.

<summary>Line feeds</summary>

Set this parameter to `true` if you want to remove line feeds (`\n`) from your input strings.

<summary>Tabs</summary>

Set this parameter to `true` if you want to remove tab characters (`\t`) from your input strings.

<summary>Form feeds</summary>

Set this parameter to `true` if you want to remove form feeds (`\f`) from your input strings.

<summary>Full stops</summary>

Set this parameter to `true` if you want to remove full stops (`.`) from your input strings.

## Example

Suppose you want to **remove** **spaces**, line feeds and full stops from your input strings:

1. In your Pipeline, open the required [Action](/pipelines/actions.md) configuration and select the input **Field**.
2. In the **Operation** field, choose **Remove whitespace**.
3. Set **Spaces** to `true`.
4. Set **Carriage returns** to `false`.
5. Set **Line feeds** to `true`.
6. Set **Tabs** to `false`.
7. Set **Form feeds** to `false`.
8. Set **Full stops** to `true`.
9. Give your **Output field** a name and click **Save**.

With the parameters set above, the following text:

  Hello   World!  
This is a   test.   
```

will be transformed like this:

```
HelloWorld!Thisisatest
```
