# Unescape string

## Description

This operation is used to decode escape sequences in a string back to their original characters. Escaped strings are often used in programming, web development, or data transmission to represent special characters that cannot be directly included in text.

***

## Data types

These are the input/output expected data types for this operation:

### Input data

![](/files/lPHCVhp93aYrWgLIlhNp) - String with escape characters.

### Output data

![](/files/lPHCVhp93aYrWgLIlhNp) - Resulting unescaped string.

***

## Example

Suppose you want to **unescape characters** in a series of input strings. To do it:

1. In your Pipeline, open the required [Action](/the-workspace/pipelines/actions.md) configuration and select the input **Field**.
2. In the **Operation** field, choose **Unescape string**.
3. Give your **Output field** a name and click **Save**. All the escape characters will be removed. For example:

```
She said, \"Hello, world!\" -> She said, "Hello, world!"
```

{% hint style="info" %}
You can try out operations with specific values using the **Input** field above the operation. You can enter the value in the example above and check the result in the **Output** field.
{% endhint %}
